Children's Dentist

Children's dentist in Berlin — an English-speaking family dental practice in Reinickendorf / Waidmannslust. The first dental visits shape how your child relates to dentistry for the rest of their life. We take time, build trust and make every visit a positive experience.

Family-Friendly English-Speaking Children's Dentist

We are members of the Kinderkompetenzzentrum Berlin (children's dental competence centre) — a network of practices specialised in age-appropriate paediatric care. At our practice your child learns: the dentist is not scary, just part of life, and can even be fun.

Our Child-Friendly Approach

  • Plenty of time — no child is ever rushed through an appointment
  • Tell-Show-Do method — we explain each tool, show it, then use it
  • Parents welcome in the room — especially for first visits
  • Comfort toy welcome — a favourite stuffed animal helps calm
  • Patience with anxious kids — first visits can be pure familiarisation, no treatment
  • Small rewards after every successful visit
  • Age-appropriate explanation in English (or German, Dutch, Italian as preferred)

When Should a Child First Visit?

Ideally with the first milk tooth or by the first birthday. The familiarisation visit without treatment establishes positive associations. Real preventive advice starts at age 2 to 3.

Preventive Care for Children

German statutory insurance covers four preventive visits per year until age 6. We use these for:

  • Early caries detection on milk teeth
  • Fluoride application — protects soft milk tooth enamel
  • Monitoring tooth eruption and bite development
  • Brushing school — proper technique for child and parent
  • Nutritional advice — what keeps teeth healthy
  • Fissure sealants on first permanent molars (typically around age 6)

Treatments We Offer for Children

  • Routine check-ups and professional cleaning
  • Tooth-coloured fillings on milk teeth and permanent teeth
  • Fissure sealants to prevent decay in molars
  • Early orthodontic assessment (from approximately age 9) — see orthodontics
  • Dental injury care after sports or fall accidents
  • Management of enamel defects (MIH — Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation)

If Your Child is Anxious

Childhood dental anxiety is common. If your child is nervous or had a negative experience, please tell us beforehand. We never use force — we use gradual approach, distraction, and patience. Numbing gels make injections almost imperceptible. For very anxious children we discuss individual approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are cavities in baby teeth really worth treating?

Yes. Untreated cavities in milk teeth can cause pain, infection and damage to the permanent teeth growing beneath. Milk teeth are also space holders.

How should I brush my child's teeth?

Until school age, parents brush. We recommend the KAI method: chewing surfaces (Kau), outer surfaces (Außen), inner surfaces (Innen) — in that order. From age 6 children can brush themselves, but should be supervised until about age 10.

How much sugar is okay?

Less is more — especially between meals. Sugary drinks in baby bottles cause serious damage. Water and unsweetened tea are best.

What should I do in a tooth accident?

For a knocked-out permanent tooth: store in cold milk, saliva or a tooth-rescue box, do not clean it, and call us immediately. Fast response decides whether the tooth can be saved.
